November saw the launch of our initiative to support local charitable organizations by donating half of our event proceeds and accepting donated items from our attendees and members. We kicked off this campaign by partnering with Project Smile, a local charity that donates new and previously owned stuffed animals, coloring books/crayons, small toys and children’s reading books for police officers, fire fighters and paramedics to give to children.
It was quite entertaining to see adults walk through the restaurant/bar holding a plush bear or Snoopy stuffed animal. Even though schedules can become chaotic during the holidays, the support was fantastic as many of our regular attendees and new faces came out to support our efforts. The atmosphere was like a company Christmas party with a healthy mix of business chatter and socializing.
Tallying the results from our November and December events we were able to raise $75, several boxes full of stuffed animals, and awareness for Project Smile’s efforts. All of which could not have been done without our members, event attendees, and community supporters of the YPO and Project Smile.
“We appreciate the effort that the United Chamber’s YPO made to raise funds and collect stuffed animals for Project Smile. We’re happy that the YPO chose to support our efforts to help children who are victims of traumatic events.” Catherine Pisacane, Executive Director said of the YPO.
With the success of our Project Smile campaign the YPO has decided to support a new non-profit every quarter. We feel it’s a small way that we can help give back to the charities that support our community. We look forward to partnering with more local organizations this year and appreciate everyone’s help and involvement.
On November 14th the United Regional Chamber of Commerce held it’s Annual Meeting. Topics ranged from the Chamber’s year in review to the proposed revitalization of the Plainridge Racecourse. YPO board members Sean Chrobak (President) and Vicky Faunce (Immediate Past President) were in attendance to engage with chamber members, provide an update on YPO initiatives, and help recognize some of the chamber’s standout members and businesses.
Vicky was also recognized by United Regional Chamber of Commerce President, Jack Lank, for her previous years of service as President of the YPO. Vicky has been instrumental in developing the YPO into its current iteration and helped develop a strong network of YPO supporters and community outreach connections.
